Artemisia Designs - Vintage Furnishings

Last week, I took Friday off of work to go home to spend a long weekend with the family. Mom had been so excited for me to come home next so she could take me to the two locations where her small business, Artemisia Designs, has expanded to. She revitalizes furniture, and refurbishes the old into beautiful new pieces for the home. It is incredible!

One location is called The Blue Hearth in Poolesville, Maryland. I had never been here before, so I was quite excited to see how this new location worked. What is different and wonderful about The Blue Hearth is that they are a "furnishings destination" only open the first weekend of every month. All those who sell at the location have a month to prepare their furniture and pieces, and set it up in their spot in the house. Then they open their doors to the public for a weekend of selling beautiful revitalized furniture and details.

(All the pictures below are from her On A Whim location)
The second location is called On A Whim in Lucketts, Virginia. I have been there multiple times before, but every time I go there it is different! She is constantly selling pieces, and restocking with completely different and new pieces. Everything is unique.

"Kathy Kurkjian established Artemisia Designs as her vehicle to revive, reuse or recreate objects and memories from the past. Her style is decidedly rustic lux - that comfortable and inviting look that calls you to enjoy and settle right into a space, not just admire it from afar." - On A Whim

Another fabulous part of these booths is not only refurbishing and creating everything that goes inside, but also designing the space to make it attractive to the consumer walking around. These booths are surrounding by other talented crafters, all competing for the attention of the buyer (my marketing and advertising background seems to be coming in!). Putting the booth together is an interior design project in itself. Thankfully mom is also quite good at interior design...
Mom also loves to bring along Jeffrey and Dad to help set up her booth areas (they are more than happy to help). They are great when she needs to hang things up high, or carry in those huge, heavy chests. Jeffrey also likes to put in his design sense...we always appreciate his opinion :)

These outings together are so special, especially since I don't live at home anymore. Spending the day feeding our passion for creating like this is the perfect bonding experience for us both! We are both in our element, and couldn't be happier.
