The 3% Conference

Last week, I was invited to a conference in NYC by one of our Creative Directors at TracyLocke, Michelle, along with multiple other Art Directors, Associate Art Directors, and our President & CEO, Beth Ann Kaminkow. The conference was called "The 3% Conference."
So, what is the conference about?

Advertising is a male-dominated industry. Only 3% of Creative Directors in advertising are women. 80% of all purchases are made by women, and many of these women say they don't like how they are being marketed to. Wouldn't a simple solve be to get more women in these high positions and leadership roles, like Creative Directors, so we can market directly to other women like ourselves?

Kat Gordon, the founder of The 3% Conference, believes that the issue of women not making it to these positions is from "lack of support for motherhood, lack of mentorship, lack of awareness that femaleness is an asset to connecting to the consumer marketplace today, lack of celebration of female work due to gender bias of award juries, lack of women negotiating their first agency salary and every one thereafter."

Overall, the conference is a push to get more women in leadership positions. It was incredibly inspiring, especially for women like me who love what they do, but who are also so excited to start a family some day. We heard from two women, including Kerry Keenan, the Chief Creative Officer at Deutsch, New York, who are both mothers and very successful women in advertising. To all of us young designers and Art Directors out there - we can do it!
Our TracyLocke team - we had a great group to represent our company!
